New Stuff for FFXIV Empty New Stuff for FFXIV

Videos are up for character creation for FFXIV.

    http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/6641-ffxivcorecoms-e3-news/

I have to say I'm happy but still disapointed with them.

I was more hoping for sliders and whatnot to actually change shapes/etc. Instead we have four hairstyles, four eyebrows, four mouths. The 16 skintones and 32 color choices for hair highlights is a big plus though. And I like that you get 5 'options' to put on your character based on gender/clan. (Although lalafell with a mustache is still disturbing.)

They've leaked info about The Twelve and I think that will be a nice base to start up character ideas.

    http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/6589-info-taken-from-the-official-char-creation-video/?s=decd36b183dfe1598162ab5338e13eb9

Right now I know that I'm going to make a Miqo'te and my friend (soon to be roommate) will be making a Hellsguard Roegard (sp). And then we're each going to make a Shader Elzen. (We're going to give the Shaders the same last name, haven't decided if they're going to be siblings or a couple.)

EDIT: Jon would like for us to start in Ul'dan (the desert area), I'm partial to Gridania myself, but without info of the other two areas it's hard to pick. He wants Ul'dan due to the Hellsguard being close to there, (in theory) and it being a center of trade. I like Grindania since the two main jobs I want to work on (Archer and Conjurer) are more prevalent there. But then again I'll probably make the Miqo'te a wanderer and thus travel anywhere. So starting area is still up in the air but I have a feeling we'll end up starting in Ul'dan unless others join our little group and we get a strong push for another region.
    /EDIT

I'm still probably going to use Nekaru as my main because that way any old XI people will know who I am, but am thinking of useing the name Mi'wan somewhere. Maybe Mi'wan Nekaru, or Nekaru Mi'wan, or make a 2nd Miqo'te named Mi'wan. But I did notice that most Miqo'te have an ' in their name. So maybe I might go with Mi'wan Nekaru and thus have a Nekaru clan. ><

    What are everyone else's thoughts?

    Mi'wan Nekaru gets my vote.

    Nekaruuu claaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!!!

    [EDIT]
I really like the additions they made for character creation. At first the lack of a size/shape thing was dissapointing but considering the sheer volume of face and hair combinations characters will stand out from each other when up close.

    More Updates

Right now apostrophies are not in the cards for names. (Hopefully that will change by game release.) Apparently having two different colored eyes is an auspisious thing for the Seekers of the Sun.

Besides the shape of the pupils, the Keepers of the Moon also have longer and slimmer tails. However skintones from them are whites, blacks and blues. (Same as the Shader Elzen.) Also they have more pronounced canine teeth, but I didn't notice that part.

Apparently the Hellsguard Rogyeden have the firstborn stay with the clan and then the younger siblings are the ones that go out into the world.

Scars or other facial features are different based on the face you select (there's 4 choices). Elzen and Lalafel have earrings as selections.

That's all I've got atm. Soon I'll start working on backstories, at least an outline then will fill in the details once I'm actualy in game and can see more stuffs.

They're planning to have Character Blogs and other stuff so you can tell the adventures of your character on their site.

Names of servers have been previous game villians. Don't know if that will stick around or if they'll rename them.

You can make fomor characters! Just pick black skin, white hair and red eyes and done!

If they get to open beta I vote we all check it out. (And the 'benchmark' program has been said to be extreamly harsh because they expect the benchmark to be able to live through the entirety of the game. Meaning that today's top of the line computer will get just a passing grade, and mine are getting the 'you can't play this'. So don't worry about those scores, we should try it out to see if it can work on people's computers.

I'd be interested, I don't want to get my hopes up until I actually see an open beta though.

So yeah, good thing I still have my FFXI account.

    1) Dropping the price by $5.95! So yeah, feels affordable to keep Nek on Lakshmi.

    2) Hermes Sandals! Woot! I always like going fast, and that's what these do.

    3) Keep you name...don't think I'll do this one...since if you keep a name it goes first name is your character's name, 2nd name is your world. So I'd be Nekaru Lakshmi. But for those that were interested in RPing your character getting sucked over here to the new world...this kinda sets you up for it.

I doubt Rhoa would make a very good hop. If anything she'd be grieving over the loss of her wyvern and it would b all sad and emo.

    •Open beta starts early September

•For open beta they're working on something that will let you save your character customization info to your PC so you can make the same model in the actual game upon release.

•Ul'dah and Gridania will be selectable as starting cities in open beta.

I definatly want to try out all the cities to see the opening story. I also don't know how you'll get pulled into the other city stories...do you see the CS the first time you get there? Or do you just start out the part while doing city quests?

Hopefully that will help me as I'm totally torn on where to start. Since seeing the three opening stories, the Limsa Lominsa one is the coolest, and forshadowing has that being the path to fight a huge dragon, which would be really cool.

Ul'dah looks a lot like Jeuno/Aht Urgan. I'll have to see the story more to get a take on it, but you fight a 'gobbue' that got loose from a circus. But this is where my roommate and his friends want to start out at. (Although he told me we could hook up there after I started wandering around.)

Gridania...it looks nice. And knowing me and my like of magic in stories...well, I can see me putting Mi'wan from around this area, but left due to wanderlust and wanting to travel. And I'm still not convinced that starting city is not your 'nationality'. Since you have that printed largely upon your character info screen. Maybe I'll make a character in each city in open beta and see. But if city does make a difference I do like Gridania as well. At least to play and get tidbits of info from to weave into Mi'wan's backstory.

Speaking of backstory, there are little towns outside the main cities that are associated with them, so that would be other 'little places' to have characters come from.

And I still hope you can change cities easily, and aren't limited to the three starting cities, since there are other cities out there.

And yeah, I'm not too fond of the whole, move a character over. I'm enjoying starting something new. (And I think having a server name for a last name is cool for raiding players who want to be remembered from their XI heroics, but not a great RP family name.)

Oh, and then there's the whole Real Certificate they will mail you with your character information on it in the Collector's Edition. We don't know if that will be a character you select, or if it will be the first character you create. If it's the first character you create then even though I'll have the CE, I'll wait til the regular release so I can attach the goggles to my character (I like them). So yeah, it'll be Oct 1 before I start playing Miwan, and it might be Oct 1 when I start playing at all.

Oh the idea of throwing Rhoa into a whole new world and being baffled sounds awesome (did that once with a rogue which was suddenly a cleric in this new world, it confused him HEAVILY) Just I don't see Rhoa as anything but a Dragoon. They have spear fighters in this game but from the description they don't play the same.

I'm clueless on where would be a good place to start, I'd probably pick at random. Being the beta (and the chars are probably going to be wiped when it's fully released) I could probably fart around with some ideas to find what I like... I'll have to see my schedule also.

    [edit]
Oh yeah, Unless I misread they have a concept artbook in the collectors edition, right? That's too tantalizing for words... but I know I don't have the cash.

    Newest info:
    http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/12050-tantalizing-tidbits-about-gridania-uldah-etc-video-5/

    Gladiator's guild confirmed in Ul'dah.
Ul'dah also has Coluseim, Casino, etc.
Ul'dah is known for their glass work.
Area to the north of Ul'dah is a vast desert.

Archers, Lancers and Conjurer's guilds are in Gridania.
They are surrounded by a thick wood.
Moogles are the denzians of that wood.

So now I'm starting to think starting in Ul'dah wouldn't be as bad, since I want to make a traveler and the three guilds I want the most are Archer, Conjuerer and Cullinarian and those are in Gridaina x2 and Limsa Lominsa. (Although all three cities feel like they have neat things to offer. I do like the naturey stuff in Gridania, and I like the call of the sea in Limsa Lominsa. And I think I like the opening NPCs best in Limsa Lominsa.)
