I'd been thinking of implementing a standard set of rules to signify what was in or out of character for a while now and it comes to my attention that doing so might help clear up a few things so here we go. These are in effect immediately and are expected to be adhered to. Please make sure everyone sees this.
- Anything on /say is in character. Period.
- /tell is out of character unless it is designated as a whisper which in case it should be accompanied by /em whispers to Target.
- A better solution of the whisper tell is just to use /em whispers to Target so other's can't hear, "Poop."
- Voicechat/Skype is out of character. (with the minor exception being that one time I was working on the computer so I couldn't type and just spoke for Keahi, but I made sure to say when I was speaking as her! Try to avoid this of course lol.)
- /linkshell will mostly be used for ooc talk for those times when voicechat is not an option.
- However, /ls can be used in character as well because a linkpearl is an in game item owned by your character. When you would like to use the linkshell in character, please put the dialogue in {squiggly brackets} so the others know they can hear it over the pearl. If it is not in the brackets, it is not in character and no one is to treat it as such.
- I think I'd like to go ahead and say /party is out of character except 1) if we were in a crowded place and didn't want want to use /say (which is hardly ever because I'd rather annoy everyone or move to a less crowded area first) or 2) if you are too far apart for /say and /em to be functional (ie on chocobos or zoning). If you use /p in character, also use the {squiggly brackets} or it will be taken ooc.
- Everything you do in the game is in character even if little to no rp is involved. I would assume that even if leveling took place and no one talked on /say that the characters were still fighting and just not saying anything beyond "Stab it" and "Ow heal me please".
- If you do something that you specifically would not want to be in character (for example, running to a high level area your character has never been to for the purposes of leveling or collecting a quest item, but you do not wish to rp a new area for time constraints) then please make it clear to the others that it is NOT in character.
- If you make plans to do something later in character, let the others know via the forum if you either want to do it solo, in a small group, as the whole shell, or anyone who wants to can show up/help. That way no one will accidentally wander in and mess up plans later.
The short list:
/say = IC
/tell = OOC
/em whisper = IC
VC = OOC
/ls and /p = OOC unless in {brackets}
All actions are considered IC and open to the entire party unless otherwise stated.
That's all I got for the time being, but please post suggestions as you see fit.
